[Puppet Users] Puppet meetup/miniconf in SF Next Thursday
Hi all, Andrew and I will be in SF all next week for Velocity, Cloudcamp, and Structure, so we decided to have a quick miniconf on Thursday night. Jay Aras has set up a conference room for us from 7pm until 8 (he''ll be following up with a location), and I figure after that we''ll head to a bar and you can all buy me all those drinks you keep saying you owe me. :) We figure the miniconf will be a series of very short talks -- 5-8 minutes each. Any Puppet-related content would be great -- what you''re doing with it, what your bosses say about it, what you wish it did, etc. If you are interested in giving one, please email Jay. If you plan on having slides, it''d be easiest if you brought them on a usb drive or emailed them to Jay beforehand, since swapping the projector around takes too much time. I hope to see many of you then. -- Dawkins''s Law of Adversarial Debate: When two incompatible beliefs are advocated with equal intensity, the truth does not lie half way between them. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke Kanies | http://reductivelabs.com | http://madstop.com --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Hey Gang, The address is 139 Townsend St. and the conference room is in suite 300. The Caltrain stop is a few blocks away and if you are going to take the muni get off at the ballpark. If you have any questions let me know. We can probably spend more than the hour in the conference room as well. I doubt anyone is having a meeting anytime after 6/6:30. -j On Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 12:12 PM, Luke Kanies <luke@madstop.com> wrote:> > Hi all, > > Andrew and I will be in SF all next week for Velocity, Cloudcamp, and > Structure, so we decided to have a quick miniconf on Thursday night. > > Jay Aras has set up a conference room for us from 7pm until 8 (he''ll > be following up with a location), and I figure after that we''ll head > to a bar and you can all buy me all those drinks you keep saying you > owe me. :) > > We figure the miniconf will be a series of very short talks -- 5-8 > minutes each. Another good place to gather would be the Ignite! Velocity: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/738487/ It''s free, and you''ll probably find lots of like-minded folk to mingle with. I''m flying out on Tuesday night, so Thursday is a no-go for me :( Is anyone interested in meeting up on Sunday night for dinner? In the interests of re-invigorating interest in this in case it''s of interest. The CloudScale system is basically a cloud management system that allows creating groups (''application architectures'') of servers, each with a role (''purpose''), which can then be sequenced up (multiple VM dependency ordering: ''db'' before ''app'' before ''web'') on the cloud of your choice (EC2 only now, GoGrid next month). The system has been in production for 3 months with our first customer. It can be thought of as RightScale meets Vertebra. It does not use XMPP, but another async messaging bus, which supports multiple protocols, including XMPP. It predates Vertebra by about 9 months and was in prototype stage about the same time RightScale went BETA. Unlike all of our competitors, Puppet is a core component and you can upload Puppet configurations into the system. Our reference customer uses it do dynamically deploy and scale a multi-tier web application on EC2 for QA & testing. The web app has 5 separate server roles, each of which have as many as 1-5 nodes each. I can''t say too much more about it in this forum except that we''ll be surfacing it more publicly soon and I thought some of the local Puppeteers in the SF Bay Area might like to see a fairly sophisticated management system that rides on top of Puppet. It''s the only one I know of. Best, --Randy Randy Bias, chief tactician, neoTactics, Inc.
