I have just installed kde4.1.2 following the procedure in http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/experimental.html At some point in the installation, all my ~.kde/share/apps/ files got deleted and were not replaced. This of course means all mail, bookmarks, etc. could get trashed during this install. It also means that all applications have to be set up from scratch again. I had backups...but ..... Please add a warning on the "how-to" page that this may happen. Not everybody keeps a backup of ~.kde/ Thanks

(At least I don''t know at all, how this could happen). What happens is that KDE 4 uses ~/.kde4 instead if ~/.kde. This means you have to copy ~/.kde to ~/.kde4 to keep your settings. Could this be the ''problem''? We really don''t have any code in place which could delete ~/.kde. Greetings, Armin

So you may have to copy your configs from .kde to .kde4. After the kde4 install (aptitude install kde4-minimal then aptitude install kde4), all that is left in ~.kde/share/ is mimelink, services and servicetypes. ~.kde4/share has an apps folder but it is all new. Aptitude did not report any problems during the install but at the next startup there was a warning about no "config" folder in ~.kde/share. Ted
