If I have understood right, you want to join the kde-extra team to work in
some KDE apps? Besides krename, what applications more?
About krename, have you tried to comunicate with the current maintainer?

krename''s last maintainer doesn''t intend to continue
maintaining krename so it
will be great to have Richard doing it :)
