[Pkg-exim4-users] I can''t send mails to Gmail, Freemail, my ISP mail etc.
Hi, on my Debian GNU/Linuy Lenny system have installed exim4 4.69-9, exim4-daemon-heavy 4.69-9 and have a splitted configuration files. I have setup: in file update-exim4.conf.conf ------------------------------ dc_eximconfig_configtype=''internet'' dc_other_hostnames='''' dc_local_interfaces=''217.17.111.164'' dc_readhost='''' dc_relay_domains='''' dc_minimaldns=''false'' dc_relay_nets='''' dc_smarthost='''' CFILEMODE=''644'' dc_use_split_config=''true'' dc_hide_mailname='''' dc_mailname_in_oh=''true'' dc_localdelivery=''mail_spool'' in file email-addresses ----------------------- csanyipal: csanyipal at edu.csanyi-pal.info in file mailname ---------------- edu.csanyi-pal.info Files paniclog & rejectlog are empty. In file /var/log/exim4/mainlog I have: -------------------------------------- 2010-07-11 10:08:18 1OXrXB-0000VQ-3g gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com\ [74.125.43.27] Connection timed out I tried the commands: --------------------- sudo exim_tidydb -t 1d /var/spool/exim4/ retry > /dev/null sudo exim_tidydb -t 1d /var/spool/exim4/ reject > /dev/null sudo exim_tidydb -t 1d /var/spool/exim4/ wait-remote_smtp > /dev/null hostname gives me ----------------- edu.csanyi-pal.info Why can''t I send mails from my Mail Server exim4 to Gmail, Freemail, my ISP mail, etc? You probably need to use your ISP''s smarthost (smtp.stcable.net) to send mail. Although I''m not entirely happy about ISPs blocking direct outbound SMTP access (while allowing inbound!), it is a relatively effective way for the ISP to reduce spam originating from their network. (Besides, it''s always better to use a smarthost when using a domestical internet access service, since a lot of servers won''t accept mail from these ranges of IP-addresses.) HTH, Maarten
