I was running Hardy with, among others, rkhunter, exim4, and logwatch. After running "dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config" everything ran well. Logwatch and rkhunter sent daily messages and I was able to send email thru my ISP''s smtp server. I just had to reload hardy due to a dying hd. After installing rkhunter, exim4, and logwatch I left the exim4 default configuration in place and verified rkhunter and logwatch could communicate. External servers were, of course, unreachable. After running "dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config" with the options I *thought* I remembered, I could send mail but rkhunter and logwatch stopped communicating. Obviously I didn''t remember the configuration correctly. The options I used were: mail sent by smarthost; received via SMTP or fetchmail System mail name: cox.net IP addresses to listen for incoming: blank other destinations: localhost (or blank, same result) Machines to relay mail for: blank host name for outgoing: smtp.west.cox.net Hide local mail name: no DNS-Queries minimal: no mbox format: Ok split configuration: no Any pointers appreciated. -- Bob Holtzman Key ID: 8D549279 "If you think you''re getting free lunch, check the price of the beer" -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Missed it before. What I can''t figure out is what entry in the Dpkg-reconfigure menu causes this. I changed the system mail name, which was the only reference to my ISP that I could find other than the smtp server designation, from cox.net to localhost, 127.0.0.1, and blank at different times with no result. And please post the output "exim4 -bt root" gives you.Not sure what you''re looking for with aliases. Could you please expand on that? [holtzm at localhost]~$ exim4 -bt root R: smarthost for root at cox.net root at cox.net router = smarthost, transport = remote_smtp_smarthost host smtp.west.cox.net [68.6.19.4] That shows the problem but I have no clue how it got that way, what file defines it, or how to change it. I looked at the autogenerated file but saw no sign of root at cox.net and the /etc/exim4/conf.d/* might as well be written in Aramaic (I''m no programmer). Any further pointers *greatly* appreciated. I could be wrong, and at my knowledge level that''s a fair possibility. As your exim does obviously not feel responsible for mails addressesd to this domain, it tries to deliver it using the smart host. What does your /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf look like? [Pkg-exim4-users] Block *@example.com but allow name@example.com
I would like to know if there is an easy way to block all recipients for a domain that is configured in hubbed_hosts except for certain ones. For example in hubbed_hosts I have: example.com: smtp.example.com And I want all emails to that domain to be either denied (or sent to /dev/null) execpt for user at example.com. I am hoping there is an easy way to do this with a few configuration settings in Debian, as opposed to writing my own. But I haven''t yet been able to find out if this is the case. Thank you, Jeroen

Otoh, you could do some ACL magic. Greetings Marc -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc Haber | "I don''t trust Computers.
