Pkg exim4 users - Oct 2007 - Change the Default Message Size Limit

I have exim4 set up and running on Ubuntu with clam and SpamAssassin.

I need to change the default message size limit.

As I read the documents all I need to do is
Add  MESSAGE_SIZE_LIMIT=<insert value>
To  /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf
and restart exim4

It isn''t working . What did I miss?

I have been trying to post this to the list but I don''t see it showing 
up. I getting errors saying the server can''t be located.

Maybe this sentence in update-exim4.conf.conf?

Did you run update-exim4.conf afterwards? Only restarting exim isn''t
enough.

Thanks Jens,

Yes I have run update-exim4.conf. I did that after I posted the initial 
message, still I keep getting messages rejected.
Is it necessary to both run update-exim4.conf and restart? I have been 
but some stuff I read implied it was unnecessary.

Can anyone point me to a description of valid values for 
MESSAGE_SIZE_LIMIT ?

All examples I found use xxM are other values (like "k" or
"G") legal?
Is there an absolute miximum value
Is 0 still a valid value?

I usually refer Ubuntu users to the appropriate Ubuntu forums, since I
do not know which changes the Ubuntu people have done to the

Where did you read that?

You need to add this to the actual exim configuration. This is
described in README.Debian chapter 2.1.5 (at least, it is so in the
current Debian package).

Please give the _actual_ error message to allow us to debug.
