[Pkg-exim4-users] Clarification regarding RCPT TO:

I am using a setup of mutt (version 1.5.9i)+fetchmail (version
6.2.5+NTLM+SDPS+SSL+NLS ) and exim4(4.50-8Sarge2) to access my work
mail id vivekc@learning.hifx.net

The whole setup runs on a Debian Sarge machine.

This is how my .fetchmailrc file looks like.

The pop3 and smtp servers for the domain learning.hifx.net is hifx.net.


I would like to know why

1) The RCPT TO: field value has been changed to vivekc@hifx.net
instead of vivekc@learning.hifx.net

2) Later in the output that there is no domain associated with the
recipient address.

Kindly also let me know if I need to provide any additional information.

This looks to me that your fetchmail is polling from lyra and the
continues to deliver back to lyra. As you say, your local host has
exim 4.50, while the SMTP server your fetchmail is talking to has exim
4.52.

Yes, it does not look like your local mail server is even involved.

Can you telnet to 127.0.0.1 port 25 and say what''s the banner of the
local daemon?

The SMTP server your fetchmail talks to is most definetely not running
the exim4 packages that come with Debian sarge.

So you need to set up your fetchmail to deliver to hostname.vtc.server.

That looks like an issue with your fetchmail daemon or the POP server.
