The magic in Debian''s exim4 configuration is mainly geared to retain
the ability to roll out configuration updates via a package update
while still allowing people to do local changes. This is, IMO, very
important especially if the local admin is a newbie, should the
default configuration prove to be faulty.

That''s what I''m going to do in the future, combined with
asking for
"exim -bV | grep ''^Configuration''" first to find out
which kind of
configuration is used.
