I have an annoying message in the mainlog that I don''t understand. no immediate delivery: more than 10 messages received in one connection In /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template I added smtp_accept_max_per_connection = 100 as per the exim docs but keep getting the error. No error message shows up when I run update-exim4.conf, but the 10 message limit persists. Is there a special section that the accept should be in? I have tried 2-3 different sections with no success. ----------- As a side note, my ISP claims to support LOGIN, PLAIN and CRAM_MD5 logins: 220 corpweb.trip.net ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.4/8.13.4; Thu, 19 May 2005 15:47:15 -0500 (CDT) EHLO 501 5.0.0 EHLO requires domain address EHLO intergate.com 250-corpweb.trip.net Hello host-69-95-14-38.roc.choiceone.net [69.95.14.38], pleased to meet you 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 40000000 250-DSN 250-ETRN 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 250-DELIVERBY 250 HELP But if I have mutt configured with "set reply_to=ask-yes" and "set followup_to" I get this error: SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<pkg-exim4-users-request@lists.alioth.debian.org>: host smtp.intergate.com [216.139.64.8]: 550 5.7.1 <pkg-exim4-users-request@lists.alioth.debian.org>... Relaying denied. Proper authentication required. Unsetting reply-to and followup-to seems to allow ''most'' mail to get passed on. That''s when I use LOGIN. They don''t accept cram_md5, at all! cram_md5 authenticator failed H=smtp.intergate.com [216.139.64.8] 535 5.7.0 authentication failed. I feel that its a improper setup at the ISP. I sent message headers showing that I was ''not'' relaying and asked what was up. They have not answered and it has been a week since I sent the message. Odd the for the first month I switched to this ISP I did not have any mail rejected. I was using exim3 and was not aware that I needed to authenticate. After 6 weeks I noticed mail wasn''t getting to the list. That''s when i finally switched to exim4 Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Wayne

Relaying denied. > Proper authentication required.First step to debuging is trying to reproduce the issue with echo "something" | /usr/sbin/exim4 target-address@example.com, and then debugging by adding the -d switch.> Unsetting reply-to and followup-to seems to allow ''most'' mail to get > passed on.Strange.> That''s when I use LOGIN. The swaks package might help here, as it reduces complexity on your side.
