I''m new to xen so pardon my lack of knowledge. I''ve searched the web for answers to my question but I am unable to find any. I would like to run Solaris 8 (intel) on Xen as an HVM. Has anyone had success in doing this? When I boot the Solaris 8 boot install CD, the boot process goes as far as loading the Primary boot loader, and stops there. It does not boot the secondary boot loader. What information do I need to collect to debug this? How can I make this work? -- Treklogic ® Edsel Adap Sr. Systems Architect Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. edsel.adap@treklogic.com Phone: (416) 225-9336 ext. 4238 Fax: (416) 225-7991

Can VirtualBox run on a xen domain? (either domU or dom0) On 03-25-2010, at 9:44 PM, Erik Trimble wrote:> Edsel Adap wrote: >> I''m new to xen so pardon my lack of knowledge. Never tried it. Don''t think that it would be a good idea, especially inside a domU. -Erik Edsel Adap wrote:> Can VirtualBox run on a xen domain? Thanks for your input. I''ll give it a try. We are trying to get rid of some old hardware, but I still have to support an application on Solaris 8 x86, so I need a build environment. It''s really just going to be used for building this one application and maybe running tests on it. Nothing performance sensitive. As an alternative to HVM Solaris8, I''d suggest Solaris8 branded zones. Thanks for the suggestion but the software I am maintaining on S8 will not work within a zone. See: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/containers/ > > Chris > >All the documentation I''ve ever seen on the Solaris 8/9 container in Solaris 10 refers to using it on SPARC hardware. I guess I shouldn''t be surprised that it would work on x64, (given the BrandX Linux containers stuff), but I''ve /never/ seen/heard anyone do it. Can anyone actually verify that you can use a Solaris 8 or 9 container on a x64/S10 machine? Especially since the S8/S9 container on x64 is going to have to be a 32-bit OS... -- Erik Trimble Java System Support Mailstop: usca22-123 Phone: x17195 Santa Clara, CA
