Hi, I use PV drivers right now from http://www.meadowcourt.org/downloads/ for Windows Server 2003 32bit (one CPU). Are there any advantages of using PV drivers from sun.com? https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=Sun-xVM-guestadd-EA3-G-F@CDS-CDS_SMI -- Regards, Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

It may or may not work with Linux dom0. What OS dom0 are you using? If it''s Linux, GPLPV is well-tested enough that some users actually use them in production environment, so you may want to stick with that. Regards, Fajar

I don''t know about stability of Sun''s drivers so I will stick with GPLPV. -- Regards, Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

Last time I tried on Opensolaris, the Xen block device driver works, but the Xennet driver is unable to pass traffic from dom0. If you can get networking to work, would you mind sharing your domU config (something like running "xm list -l domU_name")? Regards, Fajar

I can''t get GPLPV networking running even after updating to opensolaris snv_108. What GPLPV version do you use? 0.9.12-pre13? If it works for you though, it''s a matter of choice between: - a well-tested, privately developed, opensource driver (GPLPV), or - a relatively new driver supported by a big company (Sun) Regards, Fajar

I installed 0.9.11 and it crashes my Windows Server 2003 R1 32bit. Sorry for the confuse. -- Regards, Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

I installed 0.9.11 and it crashes my Windows Server 2003 R1 32bit.Actually, all builds on and after 0.9.12-pre9 activates automatically, and it no longer needs /GPLPV. There a switch /NOGPLPV which is used to DISABLE the drivers instead. It''s usability on opensolaris dom0s has also improved. While the version you''re using (0.9.11) crashed the domU, in the current usable version (in 0.9.12-pre13) the block device driver works correctly, but the network driver hasn''t work yet. David Edmondson mentioned some changes will go to snv_109 that MIGHT make GPLPV work. So in short, the only working Windows PV drivers for Opensolaris dom0 right now is Sun''s driver. Regards, Fajar

Now, how can I check from dom0 if it is using pvm framework? -- Regards, Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

Unfortunately I don''t have the answer.>From domU, you can see whether it''s using PV drivers from :- Device manager. The ide controller should have exclamation mark, and there''s a scsi controller called Xen block device active. - benchmark. The simplest one is dd (for disk, Google "windows dd") and iperf (for network). You should get noticable performance difference with GPLPV active compared to the emulated driver (boot with /NoGPLPV) -- Fajar
