Hi, I''m gathering information about Virtualization products, but I can''t find where to get price and binaries for the Xen implementation of sun. I found this : http://www.sun.com/software/products/xvm/index.jsp and this http://www.sun.com/software/products/xvmopscenter/index.jsp I thought I could download a free version of solaris with the hypervisor + specs + documentation. Thanks for any help Regards ML This message posted from opensolaris.org

It''s for sure:- http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/> > Thanks for any help > Regards > MLThis message posted from opensolaris.org
Thanks for the link. But what is the difference between opensolaris and solaris 10 ? Who support opensolaris ? Does Xen included in opensolaris ? Solaris 10 ? Thanks ML This message posted from opensolaris.org

OpenSolaris Developer Edition (SXDE) released quarterly has available support from Sun near or identical to regular Solaris 10, but a new SXDE with xVM bits has not been pushed out yet. OpenSolaris Community Edition (SXCE) is supported by the community, but has many Sun employees to back it. Solaris 10 does not have xVM, nor will it have it in any update for the coming year or longer. It won''t be until Solaris 11 (Or whatever Sun wants to call it) that xVM and the many enhancements to desktop and notebook experience will be integrated into the mainline off-the-shelf distribution. Can anyone from the Xen team comment?Remember, there''s two parts to xVM: dom0+hypervisor, and (xVM-aware extension to) domU. AFAIK (and I haven''t paid much attention to S10-related issues), dom0 will not be backported to any S10 update. I''m not privy to the current plans wrt. domU in upcoming S10 updates, so I''ll leave that comment to others. HTH Michael -- Michael Schuster Recursion, n.: see ''Recursion''
Thanks guy. So, - Solaris 10 does not implement Xen. Perhaps in Solaris 11. - Open Solaris does not implement Xen, but one can download xVM and install it on OpenSolaris. - OpenSolaris is supported by the OpenSolaris community. And I read that is not usuable yet. http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/goals-of-the-project/ http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/docs/windowsguest/;jsessionid=E336FB59B23DB2A7B6AB1447029B600D Regards ML This message posted from opensolaris.org
I believe starting with SNV75A (76,78,81) SXCE provide access to "Solaris xVM "just as option of Grub Menu after SXCE install is done. This message posted from opensolaris.org
MD wrote:> Thanks guy. > So, > - Solaris 10 does not implement Xen.Correct. It is likely PV drivers will be available in an S10 update in the future.> Perhaps in Solaris 11.It is already in the next version of Solaris. But this version has not been released yet. The next version of Solaris will be built from the code in OpenSolaris.> - Open Solaris does not implement Xen, but one can download xVM and install it on OpenSolaris.Xen support is in OpenSolaris today. XVM is an umbrella name which covers a bunch of stuff. Some of it is available today in OpenSolaris, some of it is still in development, and some off it hasn''t even been started yet. There are roadmaps, features which will phased in over months, years, etc. If you are using OpenSolaris, you will see this at much finer resolution as features are phased in. OpenSolaris is a day-to-day, build-to-build snapshot of an operating system in development.> - OpenSolaris is supported by the OpenSolaris community.I am not sure what the official support model is for customers who want to pay for support. If you are interested in that, you should ask a Sun sales representative. The OpenSolaris community is a good place for individuals to ask questions and get help.> And I read that is not usuable yet. > http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/goals-of-the-project/ > http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/xen/docs/windowsguest/;jsessionid=E336FB59B23DB2A7B6AB1447029B600DSure it''s usable. I use it every day. Of course, it depends on what you want to use it for. MRJ
