Hi, I am Using a Shuttle SN72P barboone PC with an AMD athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU and 4 GB RAM . This machine has the Nforce 570 chipset . one IDE DVD RW and three Sata disks . driven by the nv-sata driver. I installed snv 81 on it two days ago and am now trying to virtinstall a Paravirtualiesed SNV81 machine. I booted on the XVM kernel I checked that the 4 xvm services is online. I loaded the snv81 dvd iso onto a UFS filesystem ( /opt ) and I am trying to deploy the virtual machine on a ZFS filesystem. Iam using this commandline structure, virt-install -n solarisPV --paravirt -r 1024 \ --nographics -f /xvm/sol11pv.img -s 16 \ -l /opt/isos/solarisdvd.iso When the virtinstall command is executed it starts well and boots in to the virtual machine. and generates the diskimage. I answer all the networking questions. Then when its time to find the install media, the installer fails to find an emulated cd/dvd drive. Atttempts to do a network install over NFS also fails. this has worked on a previous release i tried ( B76) Comments ? //Lars This message posted from opensolaris.org
Hi, don''t know about the problem with CD/DVD but for networking in Solaris snv_81 it''s necessary to disable the TCP checksum in the Dom0 by adding set xnf:xnf_cksum_offload = 0 to the /etc/system in the Dom0 and rebooting the Dom0. regards Bernd Lars Tunkrans wrote:> Hi, > > I am Using a Shuttle SN72P barboone PC with an AMD athlon 64 X2 6000+ > CPU and 4 GB RAM . Hi update: I tried this virt-install -n solarisPV --paravirt -r 1024 \ --nographics -f /xvm/sol11pv.img -s 16 \ -l /opt/isos/solarisdvd.iso with Solaris snv_81 (Dom0 and DomU) and it works - except that I had to install without network configuration because the DHCP configuration did not work. The network worked after I added the necessary statement to disable TCP checksums to the /etc/system of the DomU after the installation. Ah, and I did not use ZFS filesystems. regards Bernd Lars Tunkrans wrote:> Hi, > > I am Using a Shuttle SN72P barboone PC with an AMD athlon 64 X2 6000+ > CPU and 4 GB RAM . Looks like a kind of trade off :-)> > Ah, and I did not use ZFS filesystems. > > > regards > > BerndThis message posted from opensolaris.org

Re: Virt-install of PV snv81 does not find isoimage
Installing SNV81 DomU at SNV81 Dom0 on ASUS P5K Premiuum/WIFI based box (CPU C2D6850,4 GB RAM, 2x250 SATA Drives Seagate Barracuda) I''ve got the same results as Bernd Schemmer described in his the most recent feedback. There were no issues with virt-install creating DomU with image file : /export/home/images/solaris.img (15 GB size) The easiest test like ssh connection from DomU to Dom0 failed. To fix the problem I followed Bernd Schemmer''s advice and added line:- set xnf:xnf_cksum_offload = 0 to /etc/system at SNV81 DomU side. Then rebooted DomU. When got it done network worked fine. ZFS created on second SATA Drive:- #format Available disks 0.c1t4d0 1.c1t5d0 option 1 selected:- format>fdisk 4-th partition on second drive of type "Other" has been created with fdisk # zpool create pool c1t5d0p4 # zfs create -V 23G pool/snv81-dsk # virt-install -n Solaris81ZFS --paravirt -r 1024 \ --nographics -f /dev/zvol/dsk/pool/snv81-dsk \ -l /export/home/isos/snv78.iso No problems. I''ve specified size of ZFS at the time of creation and had to follow some naming conventions when pointing virt-install to ZFS:- --file /dev/zvol/dsk/pool/snv81-dsk where only part of path:- pool/snv81-dsk has been created by myself. I understand , that you may be using symlink, but in this case how "-s 16" is supposed to work.> -l /opt/isos/solarisdvd.iso > > > When the virtinstall command is executed it starts > well and boots in to the > virtual machine. and generates the diskimage. Isn''t the xnf (xen net frontend) driver a driver that is used in a DomU only? This message posted from opensolaris.org

I assume Bernd suffered what I suffer from frequently: momentary dom0 and domU confusion ;-) cheers Michael -- Michael Schuster Sun Microsystems, Inc. recursion, n: see ''recursion''
