Hi, I want to install nevada b75a on my macbook, I don''t have problem with this, dual booting with OS X works. If I boot the non-xVM kernel, everything is fine, I can log in graphically. If I boot up the xvm kernel I can log in via console, all the xm commands are working, so xVM works. When I start /usr/dt/bin/dtlogin (or it starts automatically) or /usr/openwin/bin/xdm, the kernel panics. The macbook has an intel grahpics controller with shared memory. Maybe the xen and the graphics controller are trying to write the same area in the physical memory. I can start just an X server without a prolem (/usr/X11R6/bin/X), but as soon as I start a client application, the kernel panic occures again. Is anyone experiencing the same thing with a macbook? Can I change the memory range used by xen? If anyone interested in debugging I can send core dump or give ssh access to a macbook with Solaris. -- /\ \\ \ \ \\ / Peter Boros / \/ / / Technical Specialist / / \//\ \//\ / / Sun Microsystems, Inc. / / /\ / Hungary / \\ \ Phone +36 1 4898910 \ \\ Mobile +36 70 5296200 \/
I have a MacBook Pro myself, because of qualms for the quality and screen size, as well as video in the regular MacBook. Intel makes terrible video cards. That''s truely a terrible bug if it ends up being that. You''re using rEFIt and the external disk method to install OpenSolaris right? Where did you get xVM binaries, I can''t find them still even though they should be out? It sounds like the graphics driver is not getting along with xVM. MRJ -- Mark Johnson <mark.johnson@sun.com> Sun Microsystems, Inc. (781) 442-0869
Not on mine, I didn''t get cheap. They don''t have it enabled because of heat on the economical (Regular) MacBooks. I admit the full blown ones do generate a bit of heat, although Revision 3 (June 2007) ones hardly compare to my old one (Rev 1, March 06) The Mac Mini also has it disabled. by the way if you want to use hvm on a mac, some macs have the VT instructions disabled. You can use a small utility to enable it back: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=577&highlight=vt-x This message posted from opensolaris.org
