Dear Friends,
I am thinking about Xen for a specialised peice of work.
In particular, I have a very specialised Solaris application which is Sun
hardware specific; It will not run on Solaris x86 - it is mad i know. There are
a number of servers that run along side the Sun system which is executing the
mad application, namely a couple of windows and linux''s servers. I
would like to reduce the hardware count by integrating the servers into a common
hardware. Because of the specialised Solaris application, I cannot do away with
Sun hardware (probably would not want to either!), introduce x86 hardware and go
Solaris x86.
The Dream:
As such, I would have to start with a basic installation of Solaris on the
target Sun bare-metal hardware, then next install Xen ontop of the Solaris
installation. Next, I hope to create the appropriate VMs to run instances of
windows and linux''s OSs.
Questions:
1) is there a Xen port to install ontop of a Solaris installation running on Sun
hardware?
2) will I be able to run Windows, eg win2k, within the above? this is in view of
the need for VT-x capable hardware on the x86 platform.
3) will I be able to run linux, within the above?
I really appreciate your kind help.
