xen discuss - May 2006 - Re: Xen and Intel VTx and AMD Pacifica

I know the folks working on this project hate this question, but it would be
great to at  least have a ballpark date for useful functionality. I also know
that some if this is not in Sun''s hands. Nevertheless, I''ll
ask!

Can you estimate when I''ll be able to do the following?
- Use AMD Pacifica CPU-based machine
- Run Solaris 10+ x64
- Run Xen on top of that
- Run Windows and Linux as guests on top of Xen (uh, and other versions of
Solaris while we''re at it.

I think there are a lot of folks who would love to run a setup like this. Key
features for me are
- Solaris 10+ functionality, performance, stability (ZFS, Dtrace, FMA)
- Ability to run apps not available on Solaris
- Ability to experiment with other OSes without using native hardware

Even a really big ballpark would be useful - any chance for this year? next
year?!

We''re working on releasing something more interesting for people to
play with "soon"
