[xen-discuss] Solaris 10/Xen availability?
Hi, we are currently using Xen and Linux to run our ad-hoc wireless network simulation system and to develop routing algorithms for wireless networks (http://ds.informatik.uni-marburg.de/de/research/project.php?name=routing). Linux, however, does not permit fine-grained instrumentation. Since we''re especially interested in cross-layer network stack issues, I''d like to use DTrace to obtain more information about in-kernel network latencies and throughput in order to better visualize and possible optimize our routing infrastructure. Since Solaris already seems to boot on Xen 2 (and possibly Xen 3 already?), would it be possible to gain access to pre-release versions of the kernel/kernel source and the ported Xen utilities to run Solaris in Xen''s dom0 and/or domU? Or is there already a released version I''m not aware of? Best regards, Michael Engel -- Dr. rer. nat. Thanks for your interest in our work on Xen. Our prototype is running as domU on Xen 2.0.7; we''re working on keeping up with Xen 3.0 but we don''t have anything even remotely working on 3.0 yet. We want to make the source code of the port available, and we''d like to invite people to contribute to the project too. But much to my chagrin, we are /still/ working through the machinations of getting our project source code repository out there, as well as prebuilt images etc. so that people can experiment with the technology. I know you''d like me to give you a date when all this will be done, but there are too many unknowns to make such predictions useful at this point, sorry. However, I will post an update on this topic in about a month i.e. on or before October 21st, and share more status and plans. What dependencies do you have on Xen and/or the target OSes? Do you need Xen 3.0 or will 2.0.7 do? Do you need dom0 and domU? This message posted from opensolaris.org
I''d also be interested in (Open)Solaris DomU images for Xen 2.0.7 as I am investigating using xen for diskless systems and migrating running machines back and forth. To this end a Dom0 with solid diskless NFS root operation would be a great benefit. I am currently looking to NetBSD for this. This message posted from opensolaris.org
