I posted this message last week and haven't gotten any responses (could have
slipped into the spam filter). I'll take another chance, any comments would
be appreciated.

No problems. As for the Production migration, we understand that you cannot
mount an OCFS volume (our current configuration) with OCFS2. We are interested
in mounting an EXT3 file system, performing a cold RMAN backup, copying the
datafiles to the EXT3 volumes, wipe the OCFS volumes and redo as OCFS2, then
copy the datafiles from EXT3 to OCFS2. Bottom line is we don't have the disk
space to configure the OCFS2 with the RAID protection we desire. Is this a
valid approach to the migration?

using OCFS2, as we have experienced this on OCFS and have occasionally used the
ocfsextfinder tool to identify the extent of the fragmentation. Is this not a
problem with OCFS2? Thanks.
