[Nut-upsuser] PSP, Protection Center 500, NUT 2.0.2 and Gentoo
Hi, I recently bought a MGE protection center 500. I am running a gentoo, and I am currently trying to enable the ups handling by the os, with no success. First, I compiled and installe nut 2.0.2 (with usb support) and psp 3.0. I made ebuild for them that I will submit soon to bugs.gentoo.org. The ups is connected via usb, and lsusb confirms that the device is detected (cf end of the mail for the lsusb output). ** configuring nut I created an entry in /etc/nut/ups.conf : [mge] driver = newhidups port = auto Then, running upsdrvctl gives me : $ upsdrvctl start mge Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.0.2 Network UPS Tools: New USB/HID UPS driver 0.23 (2.0.2) No USB/HID UPS found Driver failed to start (exit status=1) ** Running psp : - The gui starts, then freeze after a very short moment during which the buttons highlight when the mouse goes over them. - Then I have to CTRL-C it twice, then it fails with a segmentation fault. - psp seems to suppose that the nut configuration is in /etc/ups (that's what I guessed considering the messages on the console when /etc/ups was absent), but on gentoo nut configuration is in /etc.nut. tryo dev # psp (psp:9425): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to add a widget with type gtkmm__GtkFixed to a container of type gtkmm__GtkViewport, but the widget is already inside a container of type gtkmm__GtkViewport, the GTK+ FAQ at http://www.gtk.org/faq/ explains how to reparent a widget. /bin/chown: `root:ups': invalid group Segmentation fault tryo dev # I will now try the latest versions of nut, but I'd like any advice, especially if some of you are succefully using this ups. Regards, Christophe

Did you look at these links: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2663684.html and most of all: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-2663684.html Your problem should be with the hotplug files, located in nut/scripts/hotplug, that need to be installed for newhidups to work. There are numerous threads on the upsusers list on that subject, ie: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/nut-upsuser/2005-August/000108.html Note that you don't need step (3) Regards, Arnaud Quette --- Linux / Unix Expert - MGE UPS SYSTEMS - R&D Dpt OpenSource Developer - http://arnaud.quette.free.fr/ Debian Developer - http://people.debian.org/~aquette/ ... and much more ...
