Xorg.0.log after starting X session
Hello
On my HP Elitebook 8540w with a fresh installed Ubuntu Vivid (15.04) I can only
use a screen resolution of 1024x768. With the Notebook monitor it should be
possible to have a resolution of 1920x1080.
Opening a bug in Ubuntu Launchpad I was told to open a bug here at Freedesktop.
The following Ubuntu packages are installed for nouveau:
libdrm-nouveau2:amd6 2.4.59-0ubuntu1
libdrm-nouveau2:i386 2.4.59-0ubuntu1
nouveau-firmware 20091212-0ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1
Attached I have the Xorg.0.log, the output of xrandr and the kernel log.
If you need further information I will try to provide everything that is
necessary.
Best regards,
Tom

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89910 --- Comment #3 from Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> --- Actually, perhaps you meant "Max resolution of 1024x768 without nouveau"? I see no hint of nouveau being used in any of your logs. In fact, you very explicitly disable it by passing "nomodeset" on the kernel command line. Also, fyi, nouveau-firmware is something very old and very unused. And also, unless you have one of a very limited types of hw, nouveau.config=NvGrUseFW=1 is more likely to do more harm than good. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... --- Comment #4 from Tom Winterhalder <tom.winterhalder at gmail.com> ---
It seems that the nomodeset was added during installation.
The nouveau.config was added by me trying to find solve the issue.
Finally removing both settings solved the resoulution problem.
Thank you very much.
