[Nouveau] [Bug 75813] New: [NV40] X hangs, system unresponsive
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75813 Priority: medium Bug ID: 75813 Assignee: nouveau at lists.freedesktop.org Summary: [NV40] X hangs, system unresponsive QA Contact: xorg-team at lists.x.org Severity: major Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux (All) Reporter: marco at hulten.org Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) Status: NEW Version: 7.7 (2011) Component: Driver/nouveau Product: xorg Once every day or so my system practically hangs (gets extremely unresponsive; X unusable; only SysRq magic working) while using Xorg with the nouveau driver (version 1.0.10). I am running Debian GNU/Linux testing (jessie) with $ uname -r 3.13-1-amd64 $ lspci | grep VGA 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV40 [GeForce 6800 GT/GTO/Ultra] (rev a2) This problem did not occur when I ran Debian stable (with nouveau). When the system (practically) hangs, I get messages like this: ... GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon nouveau E [Xorg] failed to idle channel 0xcccc0000 [ ... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [Nouveau] [Bug 75813] [NV40] X hangs, system unresponsive
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75813 --- Comment #1 from Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> --- Full dmesg would be great, esp the messages that led up to the GPU lockup. If you have libvdpau_nouveau.so installed, try removing it, that has been reported to cause issues on nv4x's. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [Nouveau] [Bug 75813] [NV40] X hangs, system unresponsive
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75813 --- Comment #2 from Marco van Hulten <marco at hulten.org> --- I am afraid that I have not saved the Xorg log with these messages (of the crash). Moreover, I have not experienced crashes since my bug report. I had not installed libvdpau_nouveau.so, but I did have libvdpau.so as a dependency of the mplayer2 package. Is this the same thing? I removed it and after that reinstalled it. Possibly the library is different from before, since before I used the debian-multimedia repository which may have contained this library, but not anymore since that repo has become obsolete for Debian. I will report again when the problem returns. If I will not report within two weeks or so, we should close this bug report. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [Nouveau] [Bug 75813] [NV40] X hangs, system unresponsive
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75813 --- Comment #3 from Marco van Hulten <marco at hulten.org> --- Forget most of my previous message. It now appears to be the case that I have crashes in combination with certain kernel: 3.2.0-3-amd64 CRASH 3.7-trunk-amd64 no problem 3.12-1-amd64 CRASH 3.13-1-amd64 CRASH As soon as I have an Xorg log with the error, I will post it here. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
