[Nouveau] [Bug 24002] New: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR PGRAPH_ERROR
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24002 Summary: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR PGRAPH_ERROR Product: xorg Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 (AMD64) OS/Version: Linux (All) Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Driver/nouveau AssignedTo: nouveau at lists.freedesktop.org ReportedBy: Martijn.Ras at GMail.com QAContact: xorg-team at lists.x.org Heya Folks, Since updating to Fedora 11 I run into a problem with nouveau. When I've been away, on returning there's no response to either keyboard or mouse input, so I can't get out of the xscreensaver. Sometimes this happens while I'm working, in which case the screen gets garbled, in those cases the mouse still works, but the keyboard doesn't. In both cases I need to restart the machine remotely. Today I finally got something that might be helpful in /var/log/messages: Sep 17 08:03:26 localhost kernel: usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 7 Sep 17 17:25:08 localhost kernel: nouveau 0000:05:00.0: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR - Ch 1/7 Mthd 0x0184 Data 0xd8000002 Sep 17 17:25:08 localhost kernel: nouveau 0000:05:00.0: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR - Ch 1/7 Mthd 0x0188 Data 0xd8000001 Sep 17 17:25:08 localhost kernel: nouveau 0000:05:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - nSource: DMA_W_PROTECTION, nStatus: PROTECTION_FAULT Sep 17 17:25:08 localhost kernel: nouveau 0000:05:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - Ch 1/7 Class 0x0039 Mthd 0x0328 Data 0x0454d26c:0x00000000 The first message is from this morning when I unplugged my PDA. [Nouveau] [Bug 24002] PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR PGRAPH_ERROR
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24002 --- Comment #1 from Robert Kaiser <kairo at kairo.at> 2010-11-23 08:29:44 PST --- I'm seeing similar symptoms with openSUSE Factory, kernel 2.6.37-rc2, and a GeForce 7600 GT (NV4B) card, though it looks like kernel messages vary when the screen gets garbled, only the mouse pointer is still reacting (not that it would do any good) and Xorg hangs at 100% of one CPU. Xorg.log doesn't have anything of interest, but one recent set of kernel messages seems to match what has been reported in this bug: Nov 23 13:12:58 robert kernel: [ 473.423531] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - nSource: DATA_ERROR, nStatus: BAD_ARGUMENT Nov 23 13:12:58 robert kernel: [ 473.423539] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - Ch 1/7 Class 0x0039 Mthd 0x0188 Data 0x00000000:0x00007a00 Nov 23 13:12:58 robert kernel: [ 473.423552] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - nSource: DMA_W_PROTECTION, nStatus: BAD_ARGUMENT PROTECTION_FAULT Nov 23 13:12:58 robert kernel: [ 473.423557] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: PGRAPH_ERROR - Ch 1/7 Class 0x0039 Mthd 0x0328 Data 0x00000000:0x00000000 At other times I get other errors in kernel messages with the same symptom. Logging into the machine via ssh and rebooting works to get things back. Busy I/O and opening windows/popups in KDE seems to make the failure more likely. After a number of those problems (usually in the first minutes of KDE being up) and reboots I happen to get a session that works flawlessly for hours, including all kinds of window/popup opening and KDE compositing effects. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24002 --- Comment #2 from jussi haverinen <haverinen.jussi at gmail.com> 2011-03-25 10:39:41 PDT --- Created an attachment (id=44860) --> (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=44860) kernel.log boot to crash I've got the same error, PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR's and some other stuff. I was watching a video with smplayer with output gl fast with kde compositing turned on. Problem persisted until I turned off the compositing and I haven't gotten around to the video bit yet, but I'll try with xv. Card is gt220 (nv05). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug.

Archlinux up-to-date, nouveau-dri 7.10.1-1 xf-86-video-nouveau 0.0.16_git20101217-1. In the hangs, (not "crashes") mouse kept moving. There were times (hang happened about 3 times, before disabling gl programs) the screen would update maybe once a minute, with theoretically it being possible to interact with the system, until the lag/hang got so bad that I had to do a hard boot. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24002 Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |INVALID --- Comment #4 from Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> --- It appears that this bug report has laid dormant for quite a while. Sorry we haven't gotten to it. Since we fix bugs all the time, chances are pretty good that your issue has been fixed with the latest software. Please give it a shot. (Linux kernel 3.10.7, xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.9, mesa 9.1.6, or their git versions.) If upgrading to the latest isn't an option for you, your distro's bugzilla is probably the right destination for your bug report. In an effort to clean up our bug list, we're pre-emptively closing all bugs that haven't seen updates since 2011. If the original issue remains, please make sure to provide fresh info, see http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ for what we need to see, and re-open this one.
