Mapstraction - Aug 2011 - Next release

Hi all,

Today i was thinking of what we could put in next build of mxn.

1) Yahoo Maps API

This API will stop to work on 13 september 2011. It will be replacer by 
Ovi API and thanks to Gary''s work this API work with mxn. I think we 
should merge is pull request on ovi gocoder :

Question to Gary : I''ve seen that ovi doesn''t implement kml
overlays. Do
you know if this functionality is on the roadmap of ovi ?

2) Work on addJSON()

We have already talked about this work :

What should we do about it ? Does anyone had working on it since last 
mails about it ?

3) API''s broken or obsoletes

I''ve tested many API''s today and i''ve found that some
of them are
obsoletes or broken :

-* Multimap doesn''t exist anymore. We should drop it.

"It was acquired by Microsoft in 2007 and merged into Bing Maps in 
2010." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimap.com

-* Openspace seems totally broken. I can show a map on page but just 
trying to put a marker on it throw an error. I think there a lot of work 
to update this provider.

-* I''ve tried to use Geocommons and i can''t show a map on a
page. Does
anyone work with it and know if it''s still functionnal ?

4) There''s also some pull requests that are waiting to be merged. Some 
of theme are just small bugfixs and could be merged easily.

We have been working on making Bing Maps v7 to work and Esri api providers.
We may contribute with this code into mapstraction but not sure if
there''s
already anyone providing it.

You''re right; the current production release of Nokia''s Ovi
Maps API doesn''t yet support KML. I''ve spoken to the team
working on the API and it''s on the roadmap for a future release;
hopefully the next release. As soon as that happens, I should have access to an
internal beta which means I can get the code into shape ready for when the
public release goes ahead.

One overall question regarding the Nokia/Ovi Maps API ... the sandbox
doesn''t currently support this and I have very little (in other words,
virtually no) experience of the Google App Engine ... are there any plans to
update the sandbox to add in support for my port of this API?
