Lustre discuss - May 2012 - File showing zero length until accessed

All,

We had a user get confused because when he did an ''ls'' on a
tar file, it showed zero length. He then did a ''tar xzvf'' on
the file and it extracted everything??
When doing an ''ls'' afterwards, it showed the proper size of
1.5GB.

The file is on a lustre 1.87 filesytem. Both client and servers are running the
latest rpms for that.

Is this something that could be caused by lustre?

It sound like http://jira.whamcloud.com/browse/LU-274

That problem should be fixed in 1.8.6-wc1 and later releases from
WhamCloud.
