Lustre discuss - Aug 2011 - Lustre client & server on the same node, NFSv4 reexport

Hi,

some time ago, I was asking whether it is possible to use Lustre Client and
Server on a single node, i.e., if I can mount Lustre FS on an OSD node. The
anwser was NO as there were some issues with cache pressure and deadlocks. 

Is this still a problem or Lustre 2.x client and server can exist on the same
node?

Another question, is NFSv4 re-export supported with current stable Lustre
client?

This is still not recommended, but I doubt anybody made any serious tests with
e.g. 2.x codebase.
I suspect as long as you don''t use mmap all should be fine in both 1.8
an 2.x

Yes this should work, but posix locking does not work properly in 1.8 in that
case.
It does work with 2.1 clients.

so what about mounting lustre fs on OSD nodes and re-exporting it via NFSv4?
I.e., can I use OSD nodes also as NFSv4 gateways?
