Hi all, I tried running lustre on Red hat linux 9 i got a list of errors as shown below:- [root at localhost software]# rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2.i686.rpm error: Failed dependencies: module-init-tools is needed by kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 initscripts >= 8.11.1-1 is needed by kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 mkinitrd >= 4.2.21-1 is needed by kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 ppp < 2.4.3-3 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 isdn4k-utils < 3.2-32 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 nfs-utils < 1.0.7-12 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 e2fsprogs < 1.37-4 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 util-linux < 2.12 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 jfsutils < 1.1.7-2 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 reiserfs-utils < 3.6.19-2 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 procps < 3.2.5-6.3 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 initscripts < 7.23 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 iptables < 1.3.2-1 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2 Can someone suggest why i encountered this? I have installed all packages in Red hat Linux 9. Is Lustre installed only on Enterprise versions of Linux ? In general you can try to cross-pollinate packages meant for one distribution to another distribution or you run into these sorts of dependency issues.> Can someone suggest why i encountered this? I have installed all > packages in Red hat Linux 9.Given that this RH linux 9 is not RHEL, you probably can''t use the RHEL5 package and must build your own kernel for Red hat Linux 9. Or, perhaps it''s just simply to use RHEL5 (i.e Centos5 if you wish a free distribution of the same) and then use the kernel-2.6.18-164.11.1.el5_lustre.1.8.2.i686.rpm kernel that you desire on it. b. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It is not surprising that you are having issues installing Lustre. A more recent CentOS, Fedora, RHEL, or SuSE should be much easier to work with. -- Dave Dillow National Center for Computational Science Oak Ridge National Laboratory (865) 241-6602 office
