The README file in lustre-1.8.1.1.tar.gz says:

Instructions for building, configuring and running Lustre can be found at:
     http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php?title=Lustre_Quick_Start

However that page says:

"This page has been deleted. The deletion log for the page is provided 
below for reference."
