Lustre discuss - Aug 2009 - 1.8.1 kernel-lustre rpm installation failed

Hi,

 

I''m trying to check out 1.8.1 on one of our spare server which is
running RHEL5.2 (kickstarted from scratch so it''s fresh). Part of the
kickstart includes loading up all the necessary lustre rpms and install
them. The kernel-lustre rpm installation failed during kickstart. After
RHEL 5.2 is up I try it again with the same result:

 

[root at bg8mo01lm tmp]# rpm -ivH
kernel-lustre-2.6.18-128.1.14.el5_lustre.1.8.1.x86_64.rpm

error: Failed dependencies:

        ecryptfs-utils < 44 conflicts with
kernel-lustre-2.6.18-128.1.14.el5_lustre.1.8.1.x86_64

 

uname shows:

 

[root at bg8mo01lm tmp]# uname -a

Linux bg8mo01lm.sims.att.net 2.6.18-92.el5 #1 SMP Tue Apr 29 13:16:15
EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

 

I have installed 1.6.7.2 on the same server with RHEL 5.2 with no
problem.

Hi Steve,

so far as I can tell, your kernel module doesn''t match your kernel.
Your kernel version is 2.6.18-92.el5 (obsolete, you should upgrade),
while the module is for 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5 (the kernel for which is
obsolete since friday, too, I believe ;-)

You should try and obtain matching kernel and kernel modules and see how
that goes.

You need the RHEL 5.3 userspace (or at least cryptfs-utils from it) to
use the RHEL 5.3 kernel.  This is indeed a pretty rare event, but is
necessary for the RHEL 5.3 kernel.

Thanks Brian. I have suspected this is the issue. I''ll load up 5.3 and
try again.
