Lustre discuss - Jul 2008 - [Need Answer] how to update lilo.conf or grub.conf to boot your new kernel ?

Dear experts

I have a question about lustre installation.

I''m creating test systems on VMware of window XP(My labtop).

  -  installed CentOS 5.2 (Final) version.

  -  installed  pre-patched kernel RPM.

I have a question from doc as follow.

Using pre-patched kernel RPM with matching Lustre-utils RPM 

  Install the kernel RPM kernel-smp.rpm 
  Install the Lustre modules lustre-modules-.rpm

  Update lilo.conf or grub.conf to boot your new kernel 
  Reboot

At 4... Could you please give me advice How to update  lilo.conf or
grub.conf to boot  new kernel  ?

If you use grub, you need modify ?/boot/grub/grub.conf? and find  ?default=0?,
update this!

You really should refer to your distro''s (RedHat in this case)
documentation for this.  Lacking that, there is a ton of information you
can find using Google on how to update boot loaders for new kernels.

Does the VMWare CentOS provides you with superuser or root user
privileges?

If so, you can edit /boot/grub/grub.conf file and continue.
