[Lustre-discuss] Re: About OBSD implementation of Lustre
I''m sorry, I really have no idea what any of that means. At first guess, that should probably mean "no" to your questions, but I will pass this on to the Lustre mailing list to see if anyone else knows anything about it. riyaz@iitk.ac.in wrote:> Hello Nathaniel, > > Thanks for the information. We have gone through documents available at > given location. But we are not able to get answers for few queries on OSD, > mentioned earlier. > - Does this implementation follow T10 OSD specification > - Support for commands, more specifically, does it support collection > objects > - supported security methods > > We have team of students working in our storage lab.We are planning to > work in OSD technologies. Our idea is "Hierarchical Capability Mapping > Model" which is about Content aware Capability generation. We are searching > for existing OSD system implemented according to T10 OSD spec. > > Can we contribute to Lustre and extend it for our model? > > Thanks and Regards, > Riyaz Shiraguppi > > > > >> You can read about Lustre at >> https://mail.clusterfs.com/wikis/lustre/LustreDocumentation >> >> Riyaz Shiraguppi wrote: >> >>> Hello Nathaniel, >>> >>> I am doing research in Object based storage technology as >>> part of my thesis of work at IIT Kanpur. >>> >>> I want to know about OST and OBD simulator implementation of Lustre. >>> >>> I have few queries, >>> >>> - is it possible to use Lustre OBD simulator as OSD >>> target for other OSD initiators (such as OpenSource OSD initiator)? >>> >>> - Do Lustre OBD simulator implementation follow latest >>> OSD specification document? >>> >>> - What are supported OSD commands? >>> >>> - supported OSD security methods? >>> >>> - Source files for OBD simulator >>> >>> >>> >>> Can you please share any information or document about Lustre OSD >>> simulator implementation? >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> Thanks. >>> >>> Riyaz Shiraguppi >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> >> > >
Riyaz, There is a project at the University of Minnesota to implement a complete file system utilizing OSDs conforming to the T10 object disk specification. See http://www.dtc.umn.edu/disc/research.shtml#object http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~jjeong/publications/international-conference/DISC-OSD.pdf That''s the only (open) project specifically following the T10 OSD spec that I''m aware of. If you''re not concerned about T10, you might also be interested in Ceph (http://ceph.sourceforge.net/). sage On Mon, 29 Jan 2007, Nathaniel Rutman wrote:> I''m sorry, I really have no idea what any of that means.
