Is it possible to mix 32-bit clients and 64-bit servers?

Only if the 64-bit servers have PAGE_SIZE=4096.  This includes x86_64
(commonly used) and ia64 with PAGE_SIZE=4096 (not the default PAGE_SIZE).
The PAGE_SIZE restriction does not go the other way (i.e. large PAGE_SIZE
clients with PAGE_SIZE=4096 servers is fine).
