Specifically, can the public and production versions > interoperate? The on-disk format of the 1.2.x and 1.4.x releases is compatible, with the exception of the client configuration logs, so you need to run "lconf --write-conf {config}.xml" on the MDS before starting up the MDS. The wire protocols are not compatible. Wire protocols after 1.4.2 have improved compatibility hooks and we do not anticipate any compatibility issues for 1.4 versions after that. Specifically, can the public and production versions > interoperate?On-disk structures are backwards compatible, yes. You can always upgrade to the next major or minor version without reformatting. We do not usually change the disk structures, but when we do, the new version will update the structures in the background. On the network, the wire protocols are definitely NOT interoperable. Beginning with Lustre 1.4.2 we have pledged to keep the wire protocols interoperable from 1.x.y to 1.x.y+1, so that customers can perform rolling upgrades without whole-system downtime. Our goal is to preserve that same compatibility from 1.4.x to 1.6.0, and from 1.x to 2.0, but we aren''t yet able to guarantee that. Best-- -Phil
Is Lustre compatible between the public and production versions, and will it continue to be compatible? The FAQ section "Are Lustre releases backwards and forward compatible on the disk? On the wire?" indicates that they will be compatible, particularly wrt the on-disk protocol, between releases but it doesn''t indicate if it''s referring to point releases or major releases. Specifically, can the public and production versions interoperate? -- Jeff Garlough Systems Programmer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This message (including any attachments) may contain proprietary or privileged information, the use and disclosure of which is legally restricted.
