[Lustre-devel] Proposal: move Bugzilla messages to their own list
Hi all, I recently had to browse the archives for this list, and discovered that the emails now being sent by Bugzilla make the archives essentially unusable. Therefore, I propose that Bugzilla messages be sent to their own list, not this one. Benefits include: - Friendlier to new subscribers. I (like most people, I assume) setup a filter to move the Bugzilla mails to their own folder almost immediately, but new subscribers may just assume this list is nothing but Bugzilla noise and unsubscribe. - Archives become useful again. Also, perhaps the Reply-To: of the new list could be set to something that makes it obvious that you should _not_ reply directly to these emails. I''ve seen a few discussions of bugs directly on this list, which means that the discussion is not captured in Bugzilla for future reference. Comments? Cheers, Jody

Maybe the list could be made read-only: only bugzilla daemon can post. Also, the message: "Please don''t reply to lustre-devel. Instead, comment in Bugzilla by using the following link: https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=XXXX" could be moved to the bottom of the mails. -- solofo

Oh and perhaps we could ensure that bugzilla updates on this list (or an eventual bugzilla list) come from bugs opened for all to read - I''m getting ''access denied'' on some bugs e.g. 11555 Gavin> -----Original Message----- > From: lustre-devel-bounces@clusterfs.com > [mailto:lustre-devel-bounces@clusterfs.com] On Behalf Of > Solofo.Ramangalahy@bull.net > Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2007 8:49 AM > To: Jody McIntyre > Cc: lustre-devel@clusterfs.com > Subject: [Lustre-devel] Proposal: move Bugzilla messages to > their own list > > Jody McIntyre writes: > > Comments? > > FWIW, seconded. > This is how it is done in some projects, and this is similar > to commits mailing-lists. > > > Also, perhaps the Reply-To: of the new list could be set > to something > that makes it obvious that you should _not_ > reply directly to these > emails. > > Maybe the list could be made read-only: only bugzilla daemon can post. > > Also, the message: > "Please don''t reply to lustre-devel. [Lustre-devel] Proposal: move Bugzilla messages to their own list
From: Jody McIntyre <scjody@clusterfs.com> Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2007 14:04:27 -0500 Hi all, I recently had to browse the archives for this list, and discovered that the emails now being sent by Bugzilla make the archives essentially unusable. Therefore, I propose that Bugzilla messages be sent to their own list, not this one. Hear, hear. Please move them.
