My previous comment about the patch fixing the segfaults were true for the patch
applied & built into liblustre, but the same patch applied & built into
linux
lustre is very bad.  Seeing lots of console errors of the form:

format at import.c:438:ptlrpc_connect_import doesn''t end in newline
format at client.c:1500:ptlrpc_queue_wait doesn''t end in newline
format at recover.c:263:ptlrpc_wake_delayed doesn''t end in newline
format at client.c:1510:ptlrpc_queue_wait doesn''t end in newline
format at import.c:438:ptlrpc_connect_import doesn''t end in newline

Suspect the change in pack_generic.c eliminates a very necessary
''\n''.
Together with Nic''s comments this make the current patch pretty
unacceptable.
