[Logcheck-devel] Bug#560428: oidentd and logcheck-database: error when trying to install together
Package: logcheck-database,oidentd Version: logcheck-database/1.3.4 Version: oidentd/2.0.8-3 Severity: serious User: treinen at debian.org Usertags: edos-file-overwrite Date: 2009-12-11 Architecture: amd64 Distribution: sid Hi, automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has detected the following problem: WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated! logcheck-database oidentd W: cowdancer: unsupported operation flock, read-only open and fchown/fchmod/flock are not supported: tried openning dev:inode of 2055:5406907 W: cowdancer: unsupported operation flock, read-only open and fchown/fchmod/flock are not supported: tried openning dev:inode of 2055:5407760 W: cowdancer: unsupported operation flock, read-only open and fchown/fchmod/flock are not supported: tried openning dev:inode of 2055:5407052 Authentication warning overridden. Can not write log, openpty() failed (/dev/pts not mounted?) Selecting previously deselected package logcheck-database. (Reading database ... 10436 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking logcheck-database (from .../logcheck-database_1.3.4_all.deb) ... Selecting previously deselected package oidentd. Unpacking oidentd (from .../oidentd_2.0.8-3_amd64.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/oidentd_2.0.8-3_amd64.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite '/etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/oidentd', which is also in package logcheck-database 0:1.3.4 Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/oidentd_2.0.8-3_amd64.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violate section 7.6.1 of the policy. Possible solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one package and have this package depend on the other package. File diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility. Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages (according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be slightly out of sync): etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/oidentd This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. -Ralf.
