[Linux_hpc_swstack] Sun HPC Software, Linux Edition 1.2 Now Available!
The Sun HPC Software Stack, Linux Edition team (aka Giraffe) is pleased to announce the release of version 1.2 of our HPC Software Stack. This release builds on the features included in version 1.1 of the stack, including: * Support for Red Hat 5.2 and CentOS 5.2 * OFED 1.3.1 * Lustre 1.6.6 * Optional Kickstart-based installation Improvements included in version 1.2 of the stack include: * Boot Over Infiniband (BoIB) support * New versions of oneSIS (2.0.1) and SLURM (1.3.10) * Inclusion of Mellanox Firmware Tools (version 2.5.0) * Optional perfctr-patched kernel for compute nodes Sun HPC Software, Linux Edition is an integrated open-source software solution for Linux-based HPC clusters running on Sun hardware. It provides a framework of software components to simplify the process of deploying and managing large-scale Linux HPC clusters. For more information or to download this new version, please visit the Sun HPC Software, Linux Edition product page at the following URL: http://www.sun.com/software/products/hpcsoftware/ Thanks to everyone in the community who helped us by providing early feedback and testing. Hi, this is good news and we are glad that hardware counter support is back and works. I have a request for enhancement though. There is only a 64bit version of libperfctr, however the Sun Collector and Analyzer shipped with the compiler suite is 32 bit and needs a 32 bit version of libperfctr. After installing a 32bit libperfctr it works fine. Could you add and extra package or the 32bit version to the package to support the Sun collector? Another thing I was wondering about is what is the difference between the Linux kernel with IB and without (in the extra section)? With both InfiniBand works, however only kernel-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5.sunhpc1.x86_64.rpm has the perfctr patch. (kernel-ib-1.3.1-2.6.18_92.1.18.el5.sunhpc1.x86_64.rpm does not) The software list on http://www.sun.com/software/products/hpcsoftware/specs.xml suggests that there are OpenMPI and MVAmpich packages bundled however I couldn''t find them. Did I overlook something? Hi Michael, thanks for your reply, I am using the 11-2008 Studio Express version and all the executables are 32bit. If the initial 1.2 package slipped out I think we have that version because we downloaded it 1 day before the announcement :-). I have another question regarding the hardware counters. They work on older Opteron processors, however newer processors are not supported/don''t show an event list. (I tried AMD Barcelona, the Intel Clowertown.) As we will get a bunch of machines with the Intel Nehalem processor it would be great it that CPU will be supported. Are there any plans to patch/develop perfctr that the new processors are supported? best regards, Samuel Michael MacDonald wrote:> Hi Samuel. > > On Fri, 2009-01-09 at 09:45 +0100, Samuel Sarholz wrote: >> this is good news and we are glad that hardware counter support is back >> and works. >> >> I have a request for enhancement though. >> There is only a 64bit version of libperfctr, however the Sun Collector >> and Analyzer shipped with the compiler suite is 32 bit and needs a 32 >> bit version of libperfctr. >> After installing a 32bit libperfctr it works fine. >> Could you add and extra package or the 32bit version to the package to >> support the Sun collector? >> > We''ll consider this for a future release. Hi, I just read in the notes of the newest (2.6.37) perfctr version that Nehalem support is there already and we probably have to wait for the next version of Sun HPC Software Linux Edition to get this version of perfctr. What I don''t get is why I don''t see any counters on a X5355 Xeon (Intel Family 6 Model 15), as 2.6.36 should support that already. best regards, Samuel Samuel Sarholz wrote:> Hi Michael, > > thanks for your reply, > > I am using the 11-2008 Studio Express version and all the executables > are 32bit. > > If the initial 1.2 package slipped out I think we have that version > because we downloaded it 1 day before the announcement :-). > > I have another question regarding the hardware counters.
