Hello, I''d like to request that git (http://git.or.cz/) be included in a future release of Sun(TM) HPC Software, Linux Edition. We''re planning on using git to manage revision control of OneSIS images, and as such, it would be convenient to have it installed out of the box. Thank you, -Matthew
Dear Matthew, Revision control of OneSIS images is an excellent idea. I created a bugzilla entry for this request. Bug 17049 Feature Request: include git By the way, could you please give me some insightful view of git over subversion on managing OneSIS images? I am not saying that we refuse to add git in our stack. In fact we like to offer customer some flexibility whenever possible. However, subversion is readily available from CentOS repo and is just one line command away ("yum install subversion"). It might be convenient for your testing at the moment. [Linux_hpc_swstack] Feature Request: include git
If you search the oneSIS mailing list archives (February 2008 I believe) you will see the mail from the core oneSIS devleoper on how to use git. Subversion is nice, but the only thing close to it is: http://fsvs.tigris.org/ I''ve been tracking this project and figure eventually the svn devlopers will wake up ... git is going to be a lot nicer since it''s more peer-to-peer in how it can work. You specifically need a newer git repository, the version is mentioned in the email archive above. (the epel or rpmforge rpms will not do it). Basically you''re looking at doing an rpmbuild -tb git-VERSION.tar.gz, where VERSION is what is specified in the mail from the archive -cdm On Wed, 10 Sep 2008, Zhiqi Tao wrote:> Dear Matthew, > > Revision control of OneSIS images is an excellent idea. > > I created a bugzilla entry for this request. > > Bug 17049 Feature Request: include git > > By the way, could you please give me some insightful view of git over > subversion on managing OneSIS images? > > I am not saying that we refuse to add git in our stack. A slightly biased view perhaps but worthwhile, Torvalds on Git (and subversion) etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8 On Sep 9, 2008, at 9:07 PM, Christopher D.
