The linux-alert-digest list has now been consolidated with the
linux-alert list.
There wasn''t nearly enough traffic on the linux-alert list to justify
its having a separate digest list; subscribers to linux-alert-digest
tended to receive the same number of e-mail messages as subscribers to
linux-alert, only with an additional time lag of up to a week--pretty
silly considering that linux-alert information can often be rather time
critical!
We had considered consolidating these lists on several occasions in the
past. The recent move of the security lists from NRAO to Red Hat seemed
like an opportune time to do this and so we finally went ahead and did
it.
Basically, what we (Marc Ewing, actually) have done is removed the
linux-alert-digest list and merged its subscriber list with
linux-alert''s. Nobody should have "lost" his or her
subscription(s).
If you wind up receiving two copies of linux-alert postings in the
future then it''s quite likely because you were subscribed to both
linux-alert and linux-alert-digest with slightly different e-mail
addresses. You should probably unsubscribe one of the two addresses if
the duplicate messages annoy you.
Also: Alex Yuriev <alex@bach.cis.temple.edu> has now officially replaced
me as Rogier Wolff''s co-moderator for both linux-security and
linux-alert. As many of you no doubt know, Alex has been very active on
the Linux security lists since their creation. He has also been the
author of the numerous "Linux Security FAQ Updates" and has
contributed
to a number of other (e.g. CERT, AUSCERT) advisories.
I''m still hanging on "in the background" as both
lists'' administrator
for the time being, however.
