[LightDM] How to change from pantheon greeter and turn off/hide all other accounts
Hello, I am a computer technician and friend to someone who recently inherited a small laptop with ElementaryOS installed on it. I should first warn I'm a total noob in regards to Linux but have researched enough to figure much of the command language out over the weekend. I dread moving forward on this particular venture only because if the login greeter breaks that could be a great problem to try and overcome. I would like to ask how in a step-by-step language I might switch from Pantheon greeter to LightDM greeter. I have found the lightdm.conf file, but am unsure if this is the only file that needs to be altered in order to make the change. Please reply at your earliest possible convenience. #Eli5 Many thanks- Jonathan Wolff -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [LightDM] How to change from pantheon greeter and turn off/hide all other accounts
Hi Jonathan, There is no "official" LightDM greeter - Pantheon greeter is one of many greeters available. You may be thinking of the greeter that is used with Ubuntu (Unity Greeter) or XFCE etc (LightDM GTK+ greeter). To switch greeters you simply need to install that greeter and update the configuration in /etc/lightdm to have: [SeatDefaults] greeter-session=<the greeter you are using> If the issue is simply that Pantheon greeter doesn't have the certain functionality you needed (i.e. hide accounts) you might also consider contacting the Elementary project to see if that could be added. Hopefully this helps clarify things. Please ask if you have more questions. --Robert On 31 January 2015 at 14:06, Jonathan Wolff <jon_wolff at hotmail.com> wrote:> Hello, > I am a computer technician and friend to someone who recently inherited a > small laptop with ElementaryOS installed on it. > I should first warn I'm a total noob in regards to Linux but have > researched enough to figure much of the command language out over the > weekend. > I dread moving forward on this particular venture only because if the > login greeter breaks that could be a great problem to try and overcome. > > I would like to ask how in a step-by-step language I might switch from > Pantheon greeter to LightDM greeter.
