[Libguestfs] [PATCH v2 0/7] tests/qemu: Add program for tracing and analyzing boot times.
v1 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2016-March/thread.html#00157 Not running the 'hwclock' command reduces boot times considerably. However I'm not sure if it is safe. See the question I posted on qemu-devel: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.qemu/402194 At the moment, about 50% of the time is consumed by SeaBIOS. Of this, about ⅓rd is SGABIOS (it contains a useless ¼s sleep waiting for a keypress ... ffs!), and the other ⅔rds is something else in SeaBIOS. Simply removing SGABIOS improves boot times to below 2s, but at a cost that we cannot see any messages from SeaBIOS so further measurement and therefore improvement becomes impossible. [Libguestfs] [PATCH v2 1/7] appliance: Print location of udevd.
This is useful for debugging (but we can't print it unconditionally since we cannot run grep etc yet). This command alone took 0.3 seconds which is about 10% of the current launch time. It appears to be unnecessary. [Libguestfs] [PATCH v2 7/7] launch: Remove guestfs_int_print_timestamped_message function.
This function was kind of like debug(), except that it didn't check the g->verbose flag and it only worked in the library (it would crash if used after fork). It also wasn't very useful. The sort of boot analysis done by tests/qemu/boot-analysis.c means that timestamping (some) messages is even less interesting than before.
