ethernet card drops small packets severely and behaviour is not understandable
Hi, My name is kishore. I am a student at the University of Texas at Dallas. Problem Description: I have developed 2 modules. I am running one module on one machine(redhat linux 7.3. Intel 933 MHz pentium III) each. One module pumps packets into the network. Another module takes packets and keeps a log of the packets. I conducted this experiment. I have sent constant size packets and I am counting the number of packets received. this is the statistics 500 35 bytes packets are sent. only 337 are received. 500 44 bytes packets are sent. only 329 are received. 500 54 bytes packets are sent. only 328 are received. 500 84 bytes packets are sent. only 314 are received. 500 134 bytes packets are sent. only 219 are received. 500 234 bytes packets are sent. only 304 are received. 500 334 bytes packets are sent. all 500 packets are received. As the size of packets is increased till 134 bytes, the number of packets dropped is increasing and after 134 bytes as the packet size is increasing, the number of packets dropped is decreasing and all packets are received afterwards(packet size above 300 bytes). I studied about interrupt mechanism and related stuff. I could not figure out this behaviour. Eagerly waiting for your reply. Thanking You, Regards, Kishore __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
