recommended iproute version? "ip rule show" netmask oddities
Hello all, I am having a problem with incorrect netmasks in the "ip rule show" output on a 2.2 kernel. Upgrading this machine to a newer kernel is not an option for me just yet, but upgrading to a more recent iproute2 is an option. I''m now confident that this bug is from a (very) old version of iproute2. I would like to choose the correct newer version for my kernel. The newest version in the 2.2.4 release series is: iproute2-2.2.4-now-ss001007.tar.gz The newest (and beta) versions in the 2.4.7 release series is: iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss010824.tar.gz iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss020116-try.tar.gz Alexey''s RELNOTES in iproute2-2.2.4-now-ss991023.tar.gz and following include these remarks, which address exactly the bug I''m seeking to squash. [991023] No news, only several bugs are fixed. * Since ss990630 "ip rule list" printed wrong prefix length. Vladimir V. Ivanov <vlad@alis.tusur.ru> * "ip rule" parsed >INT_MAX values of metric incorrectly. Matthew G. Marsh <mgm@paktronix.com> I''m concerned that I choose the correct iproute2 package for my kernel. I''m also unclear about whether the "2.4" and "2.2" in the iproute2 package name refers to the kernel series supported, or if this is simply coincidence. So, should I use iproute2-2.2.4-now-ss001007.tar.gz with my 2.2 kernel? Thanks for any answers, -Martin -- Martin A. 2.4.7 + kernel 2.2: OK was [ recommended iproute version? ]
Hello all, : I''m concerned that I choose the correct iproute2 package for my kernel. : I''m also unclear about whether the "2.4" and "2.2" in the iproute2 package : name refers to the kernel series supported, or if this is simply : coincidence. : : So, should I use iproute2-2.2.4-now-ss001007.tar.gz with my 2.2 kernel? This is probably known, but I asked what version of iproute2 I should use with my 2.2.x kernel. After experimentation, it appears that the iproute2-2.4.7 release works just fine with the 2.2 kernel series. So, I answer my own question for posterity. -Martin -- Martin A.
