Almost too trivial to mention, but... In the top-level ''I-bar'' manager application [InstantRails.exe], Help/About still reports that this is ''pre1''. On the wiki, at the top level, Latest News doesn''t mention pre3. More positively, I can confirm that the problem with mis-setting PATH when using Manage Rails Applications / Create New Rails App has been fixed. Thanks DeeJay, Leicester, UK
I need to make myself a checklist for creating a new version. Thanks for reporting this. It is small, but I do want to avoid stuff like this. As InstantRailsV1.0-Final approaches, just a polite reminder that as recently as V1.0-pre8 the HELP/ABOUT readout from the InstRails Manager application was still reporting ''pre1''. Greetings! I''m new to RoR and having some problems getting everything set up correctly. I spent a couple of days trying to get a Win2K install working. Couldn''t. On advice from someone who should know, I''m now trying to use InstantRails. Unfortunately, I''m having problems there too. I''m getting an error on starting InstantRails that Apache can''t be started. Per the FAQ, I''ve gone into the Apache config file and changed the Listen and Port settings. Listen is now set to 127.0.0.1:2000 and the Port setting is 2000. The error message in InstantRails.log is: "MySql : Apache cannot be runned : another Web server use the Web port" Help, please?! Hi Rick, My guess is that, yes, IIS (I think it''s called Personal Server or something like that) is running. According to the FAQ, I "can either get rid of the other web server, change that web server to use a different port, or tell the Instant Rails copy of Apache to use a different port." I chose the last option. It''s not working. Any assistance is very much appreciated. Take a look at the apache error log and see if it says anything useful. The easiest way is to use the IR menus: "Log Files >> Apache Error Log". Another thing you can try is to start Apache manually and see if you get any informative messages. Open a console window and navigate to the "apache" subdirectory inside of Instant Rails, then type the command "apache". Hi Curt,. I decided to try IR on my second system (a Win2K laptop that I''m using now). It went like a charm. No problems starting the web server at all. Aside from adding thewww.mycookbook.com entry to the Windows hosts file per the readme file, I didn''t have to edit any config files. That makes me think there could be something happening as a result of my unsuccessful efforts at installing Rails per your RwRoR article. Or perhaps there''s a problem in the diff between Win2K SP2 and Win2K SP4 (the laptop is SP2). Or... Since it worked on this system, I decided to take down the other system and start over. So I in the put the install CD, formatted the primary drive (a brand-new 80GB), and started setup. Long story short... I think the disk controller died. So it may have been hardware-related somehow all along. The good new is, IR is working on this system. The bad news is, now I don''t have a great tutorial like your article and I''ll have to figure out a bunch of stuff re: getting started doing development on my own. The easiest way is to use the IR menus: "Log Files >> Apache Error Log". Another thing you can try is to start Apache manually and see if you get any informative messages. Open a console window and navigate to the "apache" subdirectory inside of Instant Rails, then type the command "apache". Thanks for filling me in on the story. This kind of problem has happenned so infrequently (you''re the second person I know of), that we reall don''t know what''s going on. If we get more reports we might be able to see a pattern. In any case, sorry to here about your dead hardware, but glad you got Instant Rails running! the other person was me but somehow the problem worked itself out. I have no issue on the 2k system anymore.
