Hi:
Firstly, liveice only works with icecast 1.x. You're welcome to use
icecast 1.x of course, but it is deprecated and no longer supported by any
of the developers. Many users have also made the switch to icecast 2.0 as
well.
The answer to your question will depend a bit on your setup and whether you
wish to stream MP3 or Ogg Vorbis. If you wish to use XMMS to generate all
the audio, you may as well use Oddsock's Oddcast DSP for XMMS plugin from
oddsock.org. You can, if you wish, use this in conjunction with a line
recorder to record your soundcard's output, assuming you have a card like
the SB Live which can record its own output. Alternatively, you can use
ices 2.0 (Ogg Vorbis only) or Darkice (MP3 and Ogg Vorbis, darkice.sf.net)
to read from your sound card.
Hope this helps.
Geoff.
