Could you just try 'ices ices-live.xml (supplied config file) and tell me whether it runs OK or it gives a segmentation fault. Make sure the device in the config file does really exist (usually /dev/dsp) and is readable by the user you run ices as. Are you sure you set your line-in as your recording device? I had the same problem and i fixed it that way.
