So the mountpoints are defined by the source, not by icecast (which just managed them and sends the data to the clients) Michael
--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. If your stream has mountpoint /stream.ogg, then go to http://localhost:8000/stream.ogg.m3u (obviously, replace localhost with your actual hostname, and change the port if required). In a webpage, you can give that URL as a link, your web browser will then launch the player and the player will play the stream. The default config file for icecast2 contains no mountpoints. What does the xml code look like to create a mountpoint? rsteding wrote:> The default config file for icecast2 contains no mountpoints. What does > the xml code look like to create a mountpoint? The source client creates the mountpoint, e.g. Ices2 or Oddcast DSP. Make sure that you add ".ogg" to the mountpoint in those configurations, like "music.ogg" for http://some.host:8000/music.ogg - otherwise, most popular (and broken) players will barf and pass the stream to their default mp3 plugin (because they don't care about MIME-types).
Moritz --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Ok the link works. I have a thousand files. Do I have to create a thousand mount points or is there a better way?
Michael Smith wrote:>At 12:35 AM 12/11/2002 -0800, you wrote: > > >>I have ices2 working. >> >>How about creating a link on a webpage and then having a person go to it >>with their browser and clicking on the link and then having the player >>automatically open the file at the beginning...is this possible? >> >> > >icecast2 will automatically generate a playlist for you containing >a single entry (pointing at your stream), if you want. >If your stream has mountpoint /stream.ogg, then go to > http://localhost:8000/stream.ogg.m3u >(obviously, replace localhost with your actual hostname, and change the >port if required). >In a webpage, you can give that URL as a link, your web browser will >then launch the player and the player will play the stream. > >Michael > > >--- >8 ---- >List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ >icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ >To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' >containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Please read the documentation. I understand that you're a newbie, and that you need help, but believe me, people write documentation for a reason, and there's all sorts of good information in there. erik frederiksen

On Tue, 2002-11-12 at 10:42, Raymond wrote:> Ok the link works. Hi: If you're just wanting to serve static files then the fileserve function of icecast will probably serve you better. But yes, you would have to make a thousand files. Probably better to write some kind of script to push a .m3u or .pls file generated from the filename passed as a parameter. At least then you wouldn't have lots of tiny m3u files all over the place.
