Icecast dev - Aug 2004 - Video and icecast

I have a simple question:

Is there a source streamer ala shout that works with icecast 1.3 but streams
video instead of mp3 audio?  For that matter, does icecast even support this
type of data (video instead of audio)?

You might take a look at videolan.org.

Video is much harder since there aren't really any good codecs to base
tools on.  There aren't even that many 'mostly' free codecs in the
video
world capable of producing decently small bitstreams.
