Ravi, do you remember?Looks like 3.8.0 contains the CLI to convert replica 2 to arbiter: http://review.gluster.org/14502 Increasing replica count doesn't trigger rebalance. [Gluster-users] Quorum replica 2 and arbiter
Use the latest 3.8.x though for doing this process. I remember there was some performance issue with arbtier+sharding which is fixed in latest 3.8.x release.
