Hi I''m new to fxruby, and ruby too. I am running on Mac OSX 10.6.7 I think I have an installation problem. I get this error: ~/fxruby-play $ ruby hello.rb /opt/local/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/i686-darwin10/fox16.bundle: dlopen(/opt/local/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/i686-darwin10/fox16.bundle, 9): Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libpng12.0.dylib (LoadError) Referenced from: /opt/local/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/i686-darwin10/fox16.bundle Reason: image not found - /opt/local/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/1.8/i686-darwin10/fox16.bundle from hello.rb:4 It''s complaining about not having libpng12.0.dylib. I have libpng14.0.dylib I installed ruby with sudo port install ruby I installed fxruby with sudo port install rb-fxruby I also installed it with gem like this sudo gem install fxruby Do you have any suggestions? Is this the right place to go to get this kind of information. I did have it working a while ago bit now that I am coming back to it, it is broken. thanks, James -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Grenning Author of TDD for Embedded C www.renaissancesoftware.net http://pragprog.com/titles/jgade/ www.renaissancesoftware.net/blog www.twitter.com/jwgrenning
James, Sadly, this is the place and FXRuby seems to be a dead product. The people on this list made a fairly large investment in FXRuby but the developers of the product seem to have abandoned it. I should have it by next week. In the meantime, is there no-one else running FXRuby on OSX 10.6? Just because FXRuby has ceased development doesn''t mean it can''t still be used for a time.
I had so many problems getting it to run I gave up. This was soon after 10.6 was released. I tried again and read through everything I could find on the Internet and still no go unfortunately. There have been a few people that have pointed out this problem. Hi Is fox-toolkit dead too? I did have a good time with fxruby and Fox on an embedded device project sometime back. I was asking if there is a foxlib working on DirectFB. No answer yet. regards Nataraj On Wed, May 11, 2011 at 10:36 PM, Ralph Shnelvar <ralphs at dos32.com> wrote:> James, > > Sadly, this is the place and FXRuby seems to be a dead product. > > The people on this list made a fairly large investment in FXRuby but the developers of the product seem to have abandoned it. > > Ralph > > > Sunday, May 8, 2011, 2:48:43 PM, you wrote: > > JG> Hi > > JG> I''m new to fxruby, and ruby too. Hi, Just for curiosity I tried to setup FXRuby a few weeks ago in my new installation of Snow Leopard. I''ve just run a very few basic programs and found problems only in buttons with images so far. All the information needed was found googling. Why don''t you post your problems and see if there is an answer? The project has always been open source, and continues to be (see https://github.com/lylejohnson/fxruby/). The Wiki site (https://github.com/lylejohnson/fxruby/wiki) has what were at the time a fairly comprehensive set of instructions on setting up an environment for building and/or hacking on the code. If there was a serious interest in keeping it alive, someone would have stepped up to take over the project by now.
