Hello, I installed beryl on a computer running ubuntu edgy x86_32. Beryl considered my fxruby application to be "unresponsive" and the window was dimmed. The opengl frame was black most of the time and when I did a rotation it was flickering a lot (like there was no double buffer present). The "unresponsive"-window problem was no big problem (just unchecked that "dim unresponsive window" option). The OpenGL issue was a bit more annoying. Is there a workaround for this issue? Does this phenomenon occur on some graphics cards sometimes only? Regards Bj?rn Bergqvist

Hi Bj?rn:
Black windows under XGL/Beryl/Compiz/etc. is generally an indication of
running out of video RAM.
It took me months to figure that out. Possible solutions: 1) get a new
video card w/more RAM 2) lower your screen resolution.
On my laptop, which is happily loving beryl after a long time of hacking, I
was forced to lower the resolution from the native 1680x1050 to 1280x960, which
largely handles well, but still has a quirk here or there. XGL apps generally
respond ok on my machine.

Hello, If I lower the resolution the FXGLViewer is still black and flickery. But I saw that when I looked on a video that window also was black sometimes. Probably it''s just someting wrong with the graphics driver. NOt sure, but still sounds like video ram exhaustion, if I read your symptoms
right. How much video ram do you have, and how low resolution did you go?
